What I’ve Been Thinking: On Whimsy & Permission Slips for Joy

Lately, I’ve been giving myself permission to be delightfully, unapologetically silly—and it’s been filling my cup in ways I didn’t know I needed.

A few highlights from my recent whimsy diary:

🎃 The “Boo-tiful” Photoshoot
My friends and I did a “Boo” photoshoot in a park—white sheets, sunglasses, the whole ghostly vibe. It was ridiculous. It was hilarious. And the best part? It wasn’t just fun for us. Strangers walking by smiled, laughed, some even asked to take pictures with us. We weren’t just taking photos—we were spreading a little collective joy.

🦖 The Dinosaur Stroll
I recently remembered a time I walked through Montreal in a dinosaur onesie. Just because. No occasion, no excuse—just the pure, childlike desire to be a T-Rex on the cobblestone streets.

🖼️ Sticker Dreams Do Come True
After two years of dreaming about it, I’ve finally mocked up designs and am getting my own stickers printed. It feels like a small but significant act of creation—a way of stamping my art (literally) onto the world.

All this has me thinking: as adults, we rarely give ourselves permission to be whimsical. We outgrow dress-up, we dismiss silliness as frivolous. But what if these small acts of wonder aren’t frivolous at all? What if they’re essential?

So here’s my commitment: I’m doing more of this. And I’ve got two asks for you:

  1. I’m dreaming of organizing a flash mob in Toronto next year. Would you be in?
  2. I’m on the hunt for a top-tier dinosaur onesie, preferably with a fluffy tail. Got leads? Send them my way!

What I’ve Been Reading

I’ve been moving through “How to Lose Everything” by Indigenous Canadian author Christina Myers—a powerful memoir exploring disability, loss, and resilience. It’s teaching me how to hold space for grief while still finding strength.

What I Want You to Know: On Activism & Bringing People In

I talk a lot about social justice online—mostly reposting educational content. But recently, I tried something different: I made reels using my voice and my face, sharing clear calls to action. And something shifted. It resonated with a few folks.

It reminded me of something important: Change doesn’t just happen behind screens. It happens in conversations over coffee, in invites to volunteer, in showing up together on the streets.

I’ve struggled with how much to bring activism into my everyday life. I’ve been called “a downer.” It’s impacted my social life. But it’s also brought me closer to people who get it—who show up, side by side, fighting for a better world.

So here’s what I’m learning: It’s okay to invite people in. Ask a friend to join you at a soup kitchen, a charity run, or a protest. You might be surprised who says yes.

After all, there’s nothing like fighting for the greater good to help you find your people.
